For Moms

The Twins' Mothers Club of Bergen County offers a wide variety of activities and services for mothers of multiples. Often moms are frazzled and are just looking for answers. Our members have a wealth of experience (we have many members who have been in the club for twenty years or more) and can help! We have found that sometimes moms need to take a break from the family and do something just for themselves. There are lots of opportunities to connect with other members, get support, and find the information you need. There is truly something for everyone, whether you are expecting multiples, are a new member, or have been a member for years.

For prospective and new members (and other members, too!):

Outreach calls: When a woman first contacts us, she is assigned an outreach caller. This is a volunteer from the club that offers the prospective member support by calling to see how she's doing, answer any questions she might have, remind her about meeting dates, and just get to know her. When the prospective member visits a meeting for the first time, she already knows someone. This is a great way for both women to make a new friend!

General Meetings: A great opportunity for mom to "recharge her batteries." Sometimes entertaining, sometimes informative...but always fun and relaxing! Sign up for activities and events, volunteer, borrow a book from our library, peruse our thrift table, and learn about everything new within the club.

Big Sisters: Similar to Outreach callers, but for new members. When a woman joins the club, she is assigned an Big Sister as soon as possible. For the first year of a woman's membership, her Big Sister will call her to offer support, help her learn more about the club, remind her of upcoming meetings and events, and get to know her better. Little Sisters call their Big Sisters with questions, or just to chat. Many Big and Little Sisters form strong friendships that last for years!

New Member Tea: Held at a member's home. We welcome new members, explain a little more about the club, and chat. New members and more "seasoned" members get to know each other in a smaller group than our General Meetings.

Nights out and meetings for members:

Board Meetings: Casual meetings held at a member's home. Not limited to officers and committee chairmen - all members are welcome and encouraged to attend. This is where we discuss club business and make most decisions. All members present have a voice and share their ideas. When the business is completed, there is time to chat and have refreshments.

Ladies' Night Out: Sometimes we meet at a member's home, sometimes at a diner or other restaurant. These are informal get-togethers with no business or program. Members chat, get to know each other better, and offer advice and support to each other.

Craft Night: We meet a member's home and work on easy, fun crafts. We sell the items we make to help fund club activities. Snacks are always available, and we have lots of fun while actually accomplishing something!

Summer Workshops: We don't hold General Meetings or Board Meetings over the summer, because of varying vacation schedules. Instead, we hold Summer Workshops every week at a member's home. There are always snacks, jokes, and funny stories. Sometimes we work on a project, and sometimes we just catch up with each other and get to know each other better.

Other Workshops: Sometimes a committee (for example, Halloween Party or Charity) will need help. Workshops are held at a member's home, and all are welcome to attend. We chat and joke around as we make centerpieces, stuff goody bags, or wrap prizes for the Charity. Many hands make light work - the more people that attend, the more fun we have!

Charity: We hold an annual Charity Event for the purpose of donating money to a children's charity. The event includes dinner, entertainment, and a gift auction. We work on the Charity throughout the year, soliciting prizes for the auction, planning the evening, making centerpieces, and wrapping the prizes we've collected. All are welcome to attend the event, and members are encouraged to sell as many tickets as they can to friends and family members.

Installation Dinner: In June, we have a Dinner to honor our Member of the Year and Rookie of the Year, give awards to members, select the Madeline Geisen Scholarship winner, and install our new officers. This is also the June General Meeting.

Services available to members:

Lending Library: Members may borrow books and articles about multiples. The Library is available at General Meetings for all to enjoy.

Newsletter: All members receive our monthly newsletter, Doubletalk, which contains reports from club officers and committee chairmen, news about club activities, a list of upcoming birthdays, and more!

Thrift Table: Members can buy and sell toys, games, clothes, books, and other goods at the Thrift Table at our General Meetings. The newsletter lists larger items for sale each month, such as strollers and cribs. Women contact the member selling the item directly.

Support Guidebook: Lists a wide variety of specific issues such as premature babies, breastfeeding, special needs, toilet training, and death in the family. Members who have experience in these areas volunteer to help other members who need help and support. Members who need help with something that is outside the experience of their Big Sisters can contact us, and we will connect them with a member who can help. Sometimes just talking to someone who has been in a similar situation is comforting.

Website: Access to the password-protected, members' only section of this website. Includes newsletters, the up-to-date membership list, directions to members' homes, and more!
